Wage Growth Is Outpacing Home Price Growth in Major Bay Area Job Centers






  • Marin County is the nation’s second-least affordable housing market, with the average household needing to spend more than 120 percent of its annual wages to purchase the median-priced home.



Marin County is America’s second-least affordable housing market, with 124.1 percent of the average income needed to purchase the median-priced home. Elsewhere across the Bay Area, the amount of income a buyer would spend on a home ranges from 92 percent in San Francisco County to 56 percent in Solano County. Marin haulers offer holiday waste disposal guidelines





Today’s the day to take it all in: a decorated Christmas tree surrounded by family, friends, presents and some all-around good cheer.


But there will eventually come a time to take it all down and throw it away.


Local waste haulers are ready to haul away several tons of Christmas trees and other trash, but residents will be responsible for ensuring they’re disposed of properly. U.S. housing starts rose in November, reflecting a large climb in apartment building that masked weakness in single-family home construction.

Survey: Very Few Millennial Renters Plan to Buy Homes in 2019





Yet another poll has confirmed that millennials are very keen on homeownership, but only a small percentage of them plan to enter the real estate market in the coming year.


  • Nearly 90 percent of millennial renters expect to buy a home in the future, but just 4 percent plan to do so within the next year.
  • Amassing a down payment is millennials’ biggest barrier to homeownership, and almost half of them have not saved any money for that purpose.
  • About 80 percent of millennials in the San Francisco metropolitan area will need more than 20 years to accrue a down payment at the current rate of savings.

Californians Are Still Placing the Nation’s Largest Down Payments

Bay Area Housing Inventory Again Posted a Solid Increase in November






Inventory jumped by 27 percent year over year in November, with homes priced below $1 million up by 27 percent, homes priced between $1 million and $2 million up by 39 percent, and homes priced above $2 million up by 9 percent.

The median sales price in Marin County was $1,150,444 in November, an annual decline of 8.6 percent. There were nearly 500 single-family homes on the market, up by 19.6 percent on a yearly basis.

Another round in controversial battle over more homes near transit. Sen. Scott Wiener's bill could add 'millions of apartments, condominiums' throughout the state.


The new bill lowers height requirements a little so the tallest buildings near rail stations would be five stories, not eight. For housing near bus routes, cities can keep existing height restrictions in place but can’t limit density. That means cities can’t reject a story-two apartment building if the land is zoned for single-family homes, Wiener said.
